The Ghana Health Service has announced that 112 more persons have contracted and tested positive for Covid-19, the respiratory disease caused by the coronavirus.
This brings the total number of Covid-19 cases in the country to 1,154.
Speaking at the Information Ministry’s press briefing, Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr Patrick Aboagye said “under the general surveillance, we have 401 cases that have reported positive. We still have the 115 travellers quarantined and tested positive and enhanced contact tracing in the last three weeks, we have 638 positives, bringing the number 1,154 cases as at today, April 22, 2020.
“Out of this, we have had about 120 recovered, It changed from the 99 in the last reporting,” he added.
He said the new cases are from the backlog of cases yet to be tested by the various testing centers across the country, including the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIR) and the Kumasi Center for Collaborative Research in Tropical Medicine (KCCR).
The GHS says the results of these backlog of samples when released does not mean the number of new cases recorded on the day of the report.
Regions that have reported cases remain the Greater Accra, Ashanti, Eastern, Northern, Volta, Upper East, Upper West, Central, Western and North East regions.
