Chirano Gold Mine Limited (CGML) says it will continue to follow rigorous precautionary measures after an employee tested positive for Covid-19.
In a press statement issued by Kwabena Owusu-Ampratwum, the PRO of the company, he said on Thursday they were informed that an employee tested positive for COVID-19.
This was after confirmatory testing at the Kumasi Center for Collaborative Research.
"The employee had reported to the site clinic with flu-like symptoms, and in accordance with company protocols and ongoing advice from government health authorities.
"Chirano immediately activated local response plans, including isolating the individual and conducting a preliminary COVID-19 test on-site," the statement said.Â
Giving an update on the status of the employee, the company said the patient "is clinically stable and is currently receiving treatment from the Ghana Health Service.
"The Company is closely collaborating with the District Health Directorate on case management and on site contact tracing."
According to the statement, "all individuals identified by contact tracing have been placed on mandatory self-isolation and monitoring, pending test results from the District Health Directorate.Â
"To date, no other cases that fit into the case definition for COVID-19 have been reported to the site clinic."Â
Chirano Gold Mine Limited said its operations continue safely on site with stringent Covid-19 management and containment protocols in place.Â
"The health and safety of Chirano’s workforce, their families and communities are the Company’s top priority and the mine will continue to execute local response plans in accordance with site protocols, and the advice of government and health authorities," it added in the statement.
On Friday recorded 125 more Covid-19 cases, bringing the country's total to 1,279.
