Movie producer and filmmaker, Ivan Quashigah, has joined calls by colleagues to have government support persons in the Creative Arts Industry, amid the coronavirus pandemic.
According to him, persons in the industry who, for sometime now have been providing jobs for many Ghanaians, have been strapped for cash since the ban on public gathering came into force.
“It’s not like we can work from home, you have to be on set, we have to be in the editing studio to work, we work as teams. Most of the time when we are shooting commercials, we have more than 25 people on set, so it is very difficult (at this time),” he told George Quaye on Joy FM's Showbiz A-Z on Saturday.
Ivan Quashigah said that he and many other colleagues are struggling to pay their workers since their contracts and projects have been indefinitely put on hold.
“It is important that the government should understand the role that creatives play in the country and support us. We need that now seriously,” he stated.
The 'Things We Do For Love' producer said, many of them may have to lay off workers if help does not come adding that, people will go hungry and the effect would be far greater on the economy.
Mr Quashigah, however, stated that some creative arts persons for the meantime, are looking for other innovative ways to push their work and earn some income.
