Chairman of the People's National Convention (PNC) Bernard Mornah was on Tuesday granted a ¢20,000.00 bail with one surety for allegedly threatening the Electoral Commission (EC).
He would be reporting to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) every two weeks whilst investigations continue.
He was accompanied by Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Boamah Otukunor, Deputy General-Secretary of the NDC, and lawyers Victor Kwadwogah Adawudu and Dr Abdul-Basilt.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Juliana Obeng, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the CID told the media that, Mornah was cautioned under the Criminal Offences Act, Section 207.
This was after he responded to an invitation by the CID for allegedly threatening to resist any attempt by the EC to compile new voters register for the 2020 elections.
He was arrested to assist police investigations into the purported threats on Tuesday, June 2.
A letter dated May 28, 2020, and signed by Barima Tweneboah Sasraku II, Deputy Director-General of the CID, quoted Mornah as saying, "People who are already Ghanaians and registered were going to be taken out of the register, don't you think confusion will come at the registration centre and if it comes, you think the EC staff will be safe?"
"You think the EC staff will be safe, we will beat each other, kill each other there if that is what the EC want to lead the nation to."
However upon his arrest, he said that he only cautioned the EC on the confusion that would be created should it go ahead to compile the new voters register.
