A three-month-old baby is among the recorded Covid-19 deaths in the Northern, the regional Ghana Health Service says.
Speaking at a briefing in Tamale, Northern Regional Director of Health Service, Dr John Bertson Eleeza said the infant and two other adults – 24 and 80 – account for the region’s mortalities.
Giving further details on the deaths, Dr Eleeza said the baby was referred to Tamale Teaching Hospital from Savelugu a week ago.
“The baby came in very breathless and died almost on arrival. Samples were taken and it turned out positive for Covid-19.”
The 24-year-old lady was also referred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital from Bolgatanga but spent only an hour upon arrival at the hospital before her death.
Her samples were taken for a Covid-19 test but she died before the results were ready, Dr Eleeza disclosed.
The 80-year-old woman died in May at the Central Hospital.
The Northern Region has a total of 52 Covid-19 case with 32 recoveries.
All of the region’s 17 active cases are not in critical condition and are being managed at home, Dr Eleeza added.
