The Finance Minister has disclosed that the Employment Ministry is currently conducting a study which will illustrate the impact of Covid-19 on job losses across the country.
Delivering the mid-year budget review in Parliament, Thursday, Ken Ofori-Atta said the study sets out to authenticate initial indications when the coronavirus pandemic hit the economy.
He also said the findings of the study will be revealed to the House of Parliament in August, 2020.
Meanwhile, the Finance Ministry is set to establish the National Unemployment Insurance Scheme which will provide temporary income support to workers that have been laid off work since the virus first came to the country.
The Scheme will also aim to provide training for jobs in new fields of work.
Some have however expressed concern over how the scheme will be funded.
The Finance Minister shared that the Akufo-Addo led government is working hard to ensure that the vulnerable in society are at a disadvantage because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
