Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo says the party adores and honours females.
In his address at the outdooring of Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the running mate of the party on Monday, he said the NDC has always been the first political party to give women the platform in the nation's governing body.
He cited that it was during the NDC tenure that Ghana had its first female speaker of Parliament, Joyce Adeline Bamford-Addo who held the position from 2009 to 2013.
"The NDC is extremely proud of its core social democratic credentials, of which the power of state is used to create favourable and fair opportunities for all without any discrimination whatsoever.
"And when the NDC says all, we mean all because in the politics and cradle of the NDC all Ghanaians are equal and we have demonstrated it in our history since 1992.
"And we are all keenly aware of the enormous contribution of females in the country, so we adore and honour our women," he stated.
He further noted that the NDC is poised to bridge the gap between males and females in Ghanaian politics.
"We know that men and women do not just complement each other but when women are given the opportunity they can perform as better as men in this country," he stated.
Two weeks ago, the flagbearer of the opposition NDC, John Dramani Mahama selected former Education Minister, Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang as his running mate for the 2020 general elections.
