The Defence and Interior Committee of Parliament has summoned the Defence and Interior Ministers over alleged voter suppression during the ongoing registration exercise.
Chief of Defence Staff is also expected to appear before the Committee to answer questions on the involvement of military personnel in the exercise.
Speaking to Daniel Dadzie on Prime Morning on the Joy Prime channel, Chairman of the Committee, Seth Kwame Acheampong said he has written to the three personalities to appear by Friday, August 7, 2020.
''I have written to the Chief of Defence Staff, Defence and Interior Ministers. They have written back to us that we should allow [this] Thursday to pass.
"But at least we have a general election to run and the house is sitting till next week. I am sure by Friday, we will meet all of them'' he said.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused government of deliberately trying to disenfranchise residents of their strongholds in the Volta Region, Bono Region and other parts of the country.
Though the NPP has denied the allegations, the MP for Mpraeso Constituency, said the ministers will report to his committee before parliament rises.
Mr Acheampong, however, bemoaned the NDC's mistrust in state institutions to independently operate without interference from government. This attitude he said does not augur well for the country.
''When established state services and agencies have come out and denied and issued statements that are underpinned by facts, my friends still disbelieve the state institutions.''
''They are the same institutions we all come into office and use. When it suits us, we adopt what they say and when it doesn't fit us then we throw them away,'' the Mpraso MP lamented.
Mr Acheampong indicated that prior to the start of the voters' registration exercise, the sector ministers reported to the committee and will only be proper to invite have them respond to some of the allegations emerging.
