A community development pressure group based in the U.S, Oti Action Group of North America (OAGNA) has commended President Akufo-Addo on his directive for the creation of a local government status for the Santrokofi, Akpafu, Likpe, and Lolobi (SALL) Traditional Areas in the Oti Region.
The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development was to commence in earnest the process towards the creation of a new district for the areas.
The directive came some weeks after OAGNA lamented on the orphan state of the four traditional areas, and appealed to the government to allocate the area a district to enable it have a fair share of national development.
The Convener of the group, Immanuel Okrah Boateng, therefore, acknowledged the President’s swift response and urged the Ministry in charge to attach some urgency to acting on the directive to enable the area to ”catch up with the rest in many areas of our socio-economic lives”.
”It is our strongest belief that the President’s directive shall be taken with the sense of urgency that it deserves, and a district will be announced without any further delays as our communities must catch up with the rest in many areas of our socio-economic lives”, he stated.
”Furthermore, as the country prepares for the next general elections in December, the people of SALL, having participated in the voters’ registration exercise, should also be given the opportunity to elect their own Member of Parliament to the next parliament in 2021”, added the U.S-based Community Development Advocate.
The SALL area, which others have christened the Guan District, was carved out of the Hohoe Municipality in the Volta Region and added to the Jasikan District, following the creation of the Oti Region in December 2018.
