Freemasons of the District Grand Lodge have added to the list of organizations that have come to the aid of the Upper West Regional Hospital to help in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Freemasons, a charity and benevolent organization, supported the hospital with Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) to compliment the effort of the government in the fight against the deadly disease.
Grandmaster of the District Grand Lodge, Isaac Owulaku Huud who made the donation on behalf of the organization commended the medical staff of the hospital for working to contain the spread of the disease.
According to him, the principle of the Freemasons is giving, for which reason, they set up a charity fund to complement government's efforts.
As a result of that, Mr Huud said, the organisation has been able to raise some funds towards the donation of specialized ultra-low freezers to Noguchi Memorial Institute and the Kumasi Center for Collaborative Research to store test samples for Covid-19.
They also made donations to the Manhyia Palace Humanitarian Charity project before heading further north to the Upper West Region for the latest donation.
The items donated included 200 boxes of N95 surgical face masks, 150 disposal gowns, 50 gallons of 5-litre hand liquid sanitizers among others.
Acting Medical Superintendent of the Upper West Regional Hospital, Dr Robert Amesiye expressed gratitude for the kind gesture.
Dr Amesiye was pleased with the timeliness of the donation as the usual strenuous conditions under which they work have further been compounded by the advent of Covid-19 pandemic and the delay in the release of seed capital needed to run the hospital.
Senior Ruler of the District Grand Lodge, Sir Edward Gyader urged medical personnel working at the hospital not to allow the current challenges to dampen their spirit but instead to work hard to save the lives of the people.
Also present at the function was the acting Upper West Regional Director of Health Services, Dr Damien Punguyiri.
