The Director of Advocacy and Policy Engagement at the Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CCD-Ghana), says the country is not equipped with a well-designed verification system that tracks projects carried out by the government.
Dr Kojo Pumpuni Asante said the data needed by independent institutions to verify these projects is not readily available, and as such relies on the reports of people to ascertain what has been done.
Speaking on NewsFile, Dr Asante stated that, “One of the main issues the RTI (Right To Information Law) is trying to resolve is that.
"There is an obligation to developing this system that allows you to capture relevant information as a matter of law”.
He further added that the inability to track the input, output and outcome of these projects will make measuring progress a difficult task.
His suggestion comes at the back of the on-going debate between the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the New Democratic Congress (NDC) on which of them have undertaken the most infrastructural projects during their term of office.
The CDD-Ghana director, however, indicated that sometimes some political powers do not comply with institutions such as the CCD-Ghana, making it difficult to track the infrastructure and developmental projects embarked on.
He pleaded with the government to come to comply with their requests as enshrined in the RTI law.
