Aviation Minister Kofi Adda has refuted claims that the Kotoka International Airport has been sold by Akufo-Addo government.
He stated that the Akufo-Addo-led government is keen on developing the aviation sector hence it is impossible to sell the country's asset like the port of entry.
“We are very concerned about the aviation sector because of the vision of the President. Nana Addo Dankwa decided to set a dedicated ministry for aviation. The reason simply is that there is great potential in the Aviation sector to help in the development of the country.
"I want to make it very clear to the media and the general public that under the tenure of Nana Akufo-Addo there is not going to be any sale of the airports and infrastructure," he said.
This comes on the back of rumours about the sale and privatisation of the countries airports.
This comes after Workers of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) embarked on a demonstration to register their displeasure over government’s alleged plan to privatise the company.
Speaking at the re-opening ceremony of the Kotoka International Airport (KIA), he revealed that there are plans to partner with all sorts of potential investors to train individuals for key roles in the industry.
"We need to have aviation training organisations. We do not have any pilot training facility within the west and central Africa, maintenance repair organisation and private jet terminals in Ghana," he stated.
According to him, there is currently no management contract in place to allow a private company to control the affairs of KIA, contrary to what is being purported.
Instead, government is focused on it's vision of making Ghana the Aviation Hub within the West African Sub-Region.
In his 16th address to the country, the President declared the reopening of the Kotoka International Airport to international passenger traffic, after five months of closure.
He explained that this decision was because public health officials can now conduct rapid tests to enable the isolation of passengers who might arrive in the country with the novel coronavirus.
