A former contestant of the Archbishop Porter Girls Senior High School at the 2019 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ), has said she is hopeful an all-female school will be able to win the competition for the first time.
Abigail Botchwey who is now studying Medicine at the University of Cape Coast says adequate preparation is the key to success at the NSMQ.
In an interview with Joy News’ Maxwell Agbagba, this year’s contestants of the school say their trust is in God to win the competition.
They said this ahead of the preliminary round of the contest between Bibani Senior High Technical School, Ahantaman Girls' and Archbishop Porter Girls Senior High Schools.
“We can’t measure how prepared we are but then we trust God to take us far in this competition,” one of them said.
However, they admitted they are nervous as close relatives are expectant of positive news at the end of the competition and that in a way place some form of pressure on them.
Their coordinator, Matthew Atta Kofi, said he is optimistic the girls will go far, unlike last year were they were kicked out of the competition.
He said the performance of the students reflected in the regional contest gives him hope for success.
According to him, Archbishop Porter Girls' is a big school hence the high expectation and pressure on the contesting students,
“You know Archbishop Porter Girls' is a very big school and with big people, everybody is expecting them to perform,” he stated.
