The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested another person in connection with the murder of the Mfantseman MP, Ekow Quansah Hayford.
The arrest comes less than five days after the police said it had picked up five people in connection with the murder.
Although details of the first suspects remain scanty, available information indicated that there was still a manhunt for other suspects in connection with the crime.
In a post on Twitter, the Ghana Police Service said, those arrested are being taken through lawful procedures.
Sources also say the new suspect was picked up in the Ashanti Region while the other five were arrested by investigators from the Central Regional Police Command from their hideouts in some communities within the region.
Background
The legislator was shot and killed after his car was attacked on the Nkusukum Mankessim-Abeadze Duadze road in the Central Region.
Eyewitnesses say the suspected armed robbers numbering about six shots at the MP’s vehicle when his driver tried to drive through the robbery operation.
After the car stopped, the driver was shot by the armed robbers to deter others who might try to escape.
The MP is alleged to have confirmed his identity to the robbers when asked who the MP of the constituency was. He was then shot twice, resulting in his death.
Family members say the slain MP will be laid to rest on November 28, 2020.
His burial will highlight activities between November 27 and 29, 2020, during which period his funeral and related events will be held.
Meanwhile, there is still a bounty in place for his killers.
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), James Oppong-Boanuh said ¢20,000 will be given to anyone with credible information that will lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.
