As Ghana goes to the polls in December, the Police in the Ashanti region has assured its residents of peace in before, during and after the December polls.
Violent crimes have been on the rise in parts of the region and other parts of the country as the 2020 elections draw close.
Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Godwin Ahianyo, has called for calm with the assurance that the police are poised to do their work of ensuring peace, security and safety in their jurisdiction.
"Police Ashanti Regional Command, we are poised, professional, well-trained, resourced to make sure that come December we don't record any unfortunate incident," he said.
Speaking on Nhyira FM's morning show Kro Yi Mu Nsem, he added that it is "the responsibility of the Police to protect the ballot for free, fair and transparent elections to be held”.
“We have ensured transparency from the 1992 elections to date. We have done our job and we will continue to do so this year”.
ASP Ahianyo also pleaded with residents of the region to volunteer information on crimes and suspected criminal elements in their communities to ensure that they are brought to book.
"We plead with anyone with information on criminal activities to volunteer them to the police. You never know who the next victim of these killings and criminal activities would be”.
