Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Akufo-Addo, has expressed his disappointment in Fomena MP, Andrew Amoako Asiamah's refusal to rescind his decision to contest as an independent candidate in the December 7 general elections.
The president said although having engaged the MP in a dialogue to address his concerns, Mr. Asiamah had maintained his stance.
“I noted to him that we could resolve any complications he is experiencing with the political party after elections. I told him we would do anything it takes to ensure understanding and maintain peace, but apparently, he didn’t heed to my advice,” the President added.
He said this at a durbar in Fomena on Wednesday, during his ongoing tour of the Ashanti Region where he commissioned a 450-bed boys dormitory at T.I. Amadiya Senior High School and inspected works at the Fomena District Hospital.
On his part, the Adansihene, Nana Bonsra Afriyie II, observed that the phenomenon has the tendency to retard the development of the Adansi community.
He noted that the MP had equally refused to honour his invitation to meet with the Council of Elders to discuss the matter further.
“We agreed to hold a meeting on September 8, and together with my elders, we waited in anticipation of his coming, but he failed to show up. Had he honoured the invitation, we’d have known the next step to take,” he said.
Continuing, Nana Afriyie added that: “The people of Adansi will only accept whom the President selects as a representative on the community”.
