Founder and Presiding Bishop of Perez Chapel, Bishop Charles Agyinasare, has urged both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to commit to non-violence in the lead-up to the 2020 general elections.

He was speaking during a visit by the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) running mate, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, to the church on Sunday, November 15, where he implored the political parties to ensure total abstinence from violence.

“Let me take this opportunity, once again, to admonish our politicians, especially from the two main political parties, the NPP and the NDC, that this year’s elections should not unleash violence on us.

"The political parties should not let loose, thugs and vigilante groups on the ordinary people. Let us experience a high level of civility on the 7th of December and beyond,” he said.

Accordingly, he encouraged the Electoral Commission (EC) and security agencies to be unbiased in the execution of their respective duties.

“I hope and pray that the security agencies and the Electoral Commission would do a very professional and impartial job. They must not favour or support any one particular political party against the other”.

Bishop Agynasare also stated that Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s conduct on her campaign trail has so far been exemplary and worthy of emulation.

He noted, however, that he will not hesitate to speak against any misconduct that may be displayed.

“Let me say that as a man of God, just as I’ve commended you for what I see you doing well, the day you or your political party—whether while in opposition or while in government—fail to do what is right, expect that I will likewise speak out and not be silent,” he stated.

The religious leader also asked that all other politicians and their supporters prioritise peace in the 2020 Presidential and Parliamentary election.

"Make the peace of this nation your topmost priority, as is mentioned in Heb 12:14: “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord",
