The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has cautioned the public against ignoring labels and writings on food products especially during the festive period.
According to the Ashanti Regional Head of the Authority, Nora Narkie Terlarbi, consumers are advised to carefully examine labels on products purchased to ensure consumer safety.
This, she explained will help people to avoid food poisoning and other health related issues.
Speaking to JoyNews' Prince Appiah, the Regional head disclosed that she had received a hamper that contained a great number of expired products.
"I came home and decided to break it down and look at what was inside. I released that 50-70% of the items were expiring at the end of December."
According to the Regional head, Ghanaians have adopted the culture of keeping items for a longer period before using them which she says moves the urgency of raising awareness on products and their expiration dates.
"If you are not cautious, by the time you start using them without checking the expiration date, there would be a problem.
"For us Ghanaians, we do not bother so much about expiration dates, it is time we take our time and individually check items," she said.
Mrs. Nora Narkie Terlarbi cautioned Ghanaians to stop taking risks when it comes to healthy living.
