The Assembly members at Mfantseman have expressed worry over heightened crime rate at Mankessim especially at Asabi market after approving funds to provide logistical support to the police.
Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Kenneth Kelly Essuman moved a motion for the Assembly to request the police commander to appear before the house to answer questions related to crime in the municipality, especially in Asabi market.
In addressing the matter, he noted that the assembly is peeved over the failure of the police to ensure that Mfansteman is a haven to all.
According to government appointee Ali Abubakar Amoah, he finds it difficult to fathom how the police service has failed to ensure the safety of citizens in the constituency after the assembly constructed a police post at Asabi Market.
"We are inviting the Commander and Crime Officer to explain why we still encounter high crime rate after providing a police post at Asabi market. Those who extract and steal properties from constituents are all found at this post. They need to explain to us how all these incidents can happen under their watch," he stated.
He noted that the Alabi market constitutes one of the major sources of revenue for persons in the Mfantseman Constituency.
Meanwhile, MCE Kenneth Kelly Essuman believes another term of office secured by him would prove that party constituents were pleased by his work.
"The achievements I named in my report are about 18. The premix fund project has about 10 achievements. The Bible says by our fruits we shall overcome our enemies. This is what led to the victory of the NPP in the just-ended elections in Mfantseman."
However, he stated that should turn out of events go south, projects started under his administrations would fail to bare fruits.
"The way I have studied the terrain and made some developments if I do not continue with what I started, anyone who takes after will mess up.
"We have been able to identify the needs of the people, hence, I must be maintained to ensure that the second term of President Akufo-Addo is worth writing home about. This will allow us to win the election come 2024," he said.
