First and third year students in Senior High Schools (SHS) nationwide will not run the double-track system in the new academic year, says President Akufo-Addo.
Starting March 10, classes will start for SHS1 students while SHS 2 and SHS 3 students will start earlier on January 18.
"All SHS 1 students will start classes from 10th March, with all students embarking on a single-track academic calendar. Their seniors in SHS 2 and SHS 3 will, however, return to school from 18th January".
The president stressed that "SHS students in all schools, like SHS 1 students, will no longer run the double-track system".
He made this known during his 21st address to the nation on Sunday concerning measures put in place to curb the spread of Covid-19.
According to the President, "The expansion of infrastructure at the various Senior High Schools, over the last three (3) years, has brought us to this favourable situation".
The double-track system, however, will still apply to SHS 2 students in the schools that are employing it.
He also revealed that students in universities and other tertiary institutions will also start school on January 9.
The President also announced that "students in kindergarten, primary and Junior High will reopen on 15th January to continue studies whereas students in universities and other tertiary institutions will resume studies school from Saturday, 9th January."
According to him, government has taken measures to ensure that students are safe when they report back to school.
"Government through the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service, will ensure that all institutions, public and private, are fumigated and disinfected," he added.
