China has dispatched a medical team including frontline doctors to assist Ghana in the fight against Covid-19.
The medical team dispatched to Ghana is from the First Affiliated Hospital of Shantou University Medical College.
According to the leader of the team, Zhuang Shaohui, the group includes 11 of these doctors who have been professionally trained and equipped to help in the fight of Covid-19.
Zhuang Shaohui, also indicated that these doctors will "share relevant experiences with local doctors to help them understand better the route to curb the pandemic."
Mr Shaohui is optimistic that these doctors who have been deployed will do a great job since three of them were on the frontline in China.
“In particular, three medical specialists of our team have been on the frontline to combat the pandemic in China, whose practical experience, I believe, will also work here in Ghana,” he added.
Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo in his address to the nation, Sunday, indicated that a new variant of the novel coronavirus has been detected within the country.
The president cautioned Ghanaians to adhere to the Covid-19 protocols to avoid tighter restrictions.
“We do not want to go back to the days of partial lockdowns, which had a negative impact on our economy and on our way of life.
“But should that become necessary, i.e., should the number of active cases continue to increase at the current rate.
I will have no option but to re-impose these restrictions because it is better to be safe than to be sorry. So, together, let us all ensure that we respect the protocols,” he stated.
The new development that led the Chinese medical doctors coming to Ghana is as a result of the West African nation recording a new strain of the coronavirus, that appears to be more dangerous and contagious.
