The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has arrested nine of the purportedly most notori­ous armed robbers in the capital city of Accra, in two separate operations.

The nine were paraded before journalists at the Regional Command, pre­ceding a news briefing Monday afternoon.

Five of them were arrested in the first opera­tion while the second oper­ation led to the busting of the other four.

They are Emmanuel Debrah alias Ortega, 28- year-old taxi driver; Job Tetteh alias Lion, 28; Richard Martey Asmah, unemployed and Rich­mond Asiamah, a clearing agent. They were arrested in connection with the rob­bery of a Korean national working in Accra.

The rest are Kwadwo Effah alias Obolo, aged 28; Isaac Ofosu, a 24-year-old bus conductor; Yaw Asiedu aka Nana Yaw, 25, a bus conductor; 20 years old; Dennis Ofori aka Okusewo and Kofi Adu aka Derba, aged 31. They were rounded up in con­nection with the death of Cpl. Prince Charles Akat- tah during the Weija anti-robbery opera­tion recently.

Giving the details of the robbery, COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno said on Feb­ruary 2, 2015 at 11am, John Tetteh, Debrah Emmanuel and Richard Martey, on board a Toyota taxi, trailed a Korean national from the Airport residential area in Accra to her residence at Dzorwulu in Accra.

He said they attacked her with machetes, seized her Kia Rio car and escaped with its contents, which included the vic­tim's international driver's licence, her passport, USD5600, an unspecified amount of Korean curren­cy, an amount of GHÈ»200 and a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 mobile phone.

The Commander con­tinued that a police patrol team on its regular duties same day spotted the vehi­cle and brought it to the station.

DCOP Tetteh Yohunu said further investigations revealed that Debrah Emmanuel alias Ortega, hired the cab to commit the robbery.

He explained that fur­ther intelligence led to the arrest of Richmond Asiamah, who admitted having bought the phone for GHÈ»1,700.

John Tetteh, who was in his hideout at Aburi in the Eastern Region, also confessed having used part of his share of the loot from the robbery involving the Korean, to purchase an Opel Astra saloon car which he used as a taxi.

In the case of the sec­ond gang, COP Tetteh Yohunu said the leader, Nathaniel Adu aka King Kong, who is presently on the run together with his two other accomplices, relocated to Kumasi where they recruited members and continued their rob­bery activities.

He said they hired a Kia truck from Tema which they took to Kumasi to facilitate their operations.

The Commander said they adopted the same modus operandi that was used to perpetrate their evil acts in Accra.

He added that with col­laboration with the Kumasi command, they were able to arrest the five robbers at Asomanso in the Ashanti Region while preparing for another operation.
