The Ghana Tourism Authority is investigating an alleged case of discrimination against women at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel.
The investigation follows claims by five women who were said to have been turned away by hotel officials because they did not have male escorts.
The ladies told JoyNews they were going to have an all ladies meet-up at the hotel to celebrate a female colleague's birthday.
They were surprisingly turned away by guards at the hotel, ostensibly because they had no male escorts.
The guards claimed that was the official policy of the hotel.
One of the ladies, Catherine Attoh told Joy News that on their way out they saw about seven women with a man walking towards the hotel and they were allowed entry.
She did not understand why they would be restricted from entering the hotel on the basis that they did not have a male escort.
Following the incident, Attoh vowed never to patronise the hotel.
Samson Donkor, an official with the Ghana Tourism Authority told Joy News, Ghana's laws do not allow any form of discrimination.
He said the Tourism Authority has invited authorities of the hotel and one of the ladies involved in the alleged discrimination scandal to assist in investigations.
When questioned on how else the hotel would prevent solicitation, Samson Donkor inisted that, "it is a hospitality area. You don't do things to embarrass your visitors.
"You can allow them entry but keep an eye on them [and] when they engage in any illegal activity you walk them out," he stated.
He said there is freedom of movement in Ghana and you don't have to discriminate against any person.
He said the Authority wants the full facts of the case and will take appropriate action.
