The National Health Insurance Scheme in the Ashanti Region ended the year 2020 with a membership subscription of 2,902,306.
The figure represents a 130 per cent increase of the 2019 figure.
Regional Manager, Kwadwo Tweneboa-Kodua, also attributed the feat to the effectiveness of the mobile renewal system.
“This success is also attributable to the digitization of the processing of institutions in the country which has resulted in the development of the NHIS Mobile Renewal Service and significantly, NHIS members in the Ashanti region used this platform to renew their membership,” he said.
“We therefore encourage them to continue to exploit this avenue due to its convenience and cost effectiveness,” he added.
Speaking at the 2020 end of year review, Mr. Tweneboa-Kodua urged clients to take advantage of newly introduced platforms such as the online application renewal of health facilities credentialing process and the electronic claims submission platforms.
He disclosed that most facilities in the region have been paid up to September 2020.
He said the NHIA owes the facilities one-month arrears for last year’s services.
“Technically we’re indebted to them for only one month. It is our main aim to close the gap but we’ve made substantial payment,” he said.
He commended staff for their exceptional dedication to work.
