TN Ghana as part of its corporate social responsibility has donated personal protective equipment including 4,000 nose masks, 20,000 pieces of gloves, 40 Thermometers, 3,000 Face Shields and 50 gallons of Methylated Spirit to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital to help in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking to Joy Business, Senior Manager for Sustainability and Social Impact for MTN Ghana Foundation, Robert Kuzoe, said MTN has donated PPEs across the country in excess of GH¢139 million to help fight the covid-19 pandemic and get the economy back on track.

“The investment that MTN Ghana has made is about GH¢139 million towards the fight against COVID-19 since 2020 till date. We are re in 2021 and these PPEs that we continue to distribute across the health institutions also come at a cost. But cost is not too much of an issue here. It is the impact, the lives that we are saving and the support that we are giving to fight this pandemic is what is crucial to MTN,” he noted.

 On his part, Chief Executive of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr. Opoku Ware Ampomah commended MTN Ghana for its support.

He further appealed to the general public to observe the safety protocols to ensure a quick economic recovery.

“Because of the way livelihoods have been disrupted, people are finding it difficult to keep to the protocols, but the truth is that, if we all get through this alive, then we have the chance to recover from whatever economic downturn we find ourselves in. So it is very important that we keep our focus and support the government's effort to bring us out of this pandemic successfully,” he added.

MTN Group recently made a major move in the fight against this deadly coronavirus  by donating $25 million to the African Union to procure COVID-19 vaccines.

This partnership provided 7 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine for health workers across the continent. Out of the 7 million doses, Ghana received 165,000 AstraZeneca doses which were used to vaccinate health workers.
