The stage is set for two teams who know each other relatively well to battle for supremacy in Group E of this showcase. Spain and Sweden were pitted against each other in the same qualifying group.
Spain was the better side during that period, securing first place in Group F, just five points above their upcoming opponents. During qualification, Luis Enrique’s side amassed four points from Sweden and averaged two goals per game whilst conceding once in those two encounters.
Sweden will certainly aim to avenge those disappointing results and hopefully make a deep run in the competition.
A relatively easy win for Spain
Luis Enrique’s selections for the tournament sparked criticism across the globe, mainly because of the exclusion of Sergio Ramos. However, La Furia Roja possess enormous quality on all aspects of the field which may prove too strong for Sweden to cope with.
The recent inclusion of Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte is a boost defensively and the addition of Villarreal’s Gerard Moreno will prove useful. The forward had a fantastic campaign coming into the competition.
If Sweden are to cause any upset, they will likely place their hopes on promising young striker Isak who netted 17 league goals for Real Sociedad last season.
The odds
Spain are huge favorites for this one with their odds priced at 1.36 by Betway. Sweden’s odds in comparison have been priced at 9.03. The game could be a high scoring one which means betting on over 2.5 (1.99 odds) could prove useful.
Team news
Spain announced a squad with only 24 players on 24th May. Busquests tested positive for COVID-19 about a week later but remained in the team while self-isolating.
Spain predicted XI: De Gea, Llorente, Azpilicueta, Pau Torres, Gaya, Alcantara, Busquets, Ruiz, Moreno, Morata, Ferran Torres
Sweden announced their final squad on 18th May. Martin Olsson withdrew injured and was replaced by Pierre Bengtsson on 31 May.
Sweden predicted XI: Olsen, Augustinsson, Granqvist, Lindelof, Lustig, Forsberg, Larsson, Olsson, Claesson, Isak, Quaison

17th November 2007: Spain 3-0 Sweden (UEFA European Championship qualifiers)
