Deputy Minister-designate for Trade and Industry, Herbert Krapa has advised government to make public, the cost of President Akufo-Addo's recent foreign trips
his admonition follows the public outcry that greeted information put out by the MP for North Tungu regarding the huge cost of the alleged luxurious private jet.
The Minority spokesperson on Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa in a Facebook post described as an outrage and betrayal, government’s decision to rent a private jet for £15,000 per hour during the President’s recent nine-day visit to France, Belgium, South Africa.
Mr Ablakwa claimed that per his calculation, President Akufo-Addo spent about £345,000 which is a staggering ¢2,828,432.80 on the trip instead of using the presidential jet.
Two sector Ministers are expected to appear before the House to provide details on the said trips.
But appearing before the Appointments Committee on Tuesday, Hebert Krapa said in the spirit of accountability and transparency, it will be appropriate for the current and future governments to disclose the cost of such trips.
“Mr Chairman, I think in the interest of transparency, any demand on the government to publish how much it spent in terms of the President’s entourage, not just President Akufo-Addo but any President and how much it spent on trips, I believe it is a matter that should be made public to Ghanaians,” he told the Appointments Committee.
Commenting on President Akufo-Addo’s promise, while in opposition, to change the country’s economy from ‘Guggisberg’s economy, Mr Krapa maintained that the Akufo-Addo administration is still on course.
He stressed that the onerous task will not be achieved overnight, but assured that the government is resolved in actualizing the promises it made while in opposition.
