Police in the Eastern Region has begun looking into circumstances that led to the killing of a mobile money merchant at Okorase near Koforidua in the Akuapem North municipality.
A team of police officers early today visited the scene where the deceased, Solomon Arhin was gunned down by an unknown person.
The 36-year-old was walking home with his friend when they were attacked by his assailant on Saturday around 11 pm.
The friend, however, escaped unhurt.
The survivor, narrating what he witnessed, said he only heard a gunshot which forced him to run seek to refuge.
According to him, he least expected they could be attacked even though they saw a man walking towards their direction in the dark.
He said he returned from his hideout only to be told by his sister that his friend has been shot dead.
He added that the deceased who was shot in his chest lied in a pool of blood after he struggled to run to a nearby house for help.
"We were walking home and while on our way we saw this tall guy coming from our direction in the dark. When we reached where he was all that I heard was a violent shot. I didn't see anything again because I had to run following the gunshot," he explained.
"I decided to hide in a plantain farm but I was wearing a white shirt which was reflective so I hid somewhere and called the 112 number to get help from the security. Whilst on the phone my sister called me telling me that my friend has been shot dead. I returned to the place and found him in a pool of blood".
Two black backpacks containing cash of ¢8,290.30, an HP Laptop with a charger, six mobile phones, a pen drive, a modem, earpiece, and some bank documents were found lying beside the victim.
Meanwhile, friends, sympathizers and executive of the Mobile Money Agents have visited the crime scene.
Public Relations Officer of the association, Charles Kwesi Addo wants the police to step up their investigation.
"Solo is a member of us, he pays his dues and does all his responsibilities. What we are asking that the proper thing must be done so that we will peace to do our business," he stated.
Secretary to the group, Evans Otumfuo told JoyNews it was time the security of mobile money operators is taken seriously.
"The issues of mobile money and its accompanying security challenges we believe that it is something that we can no more handle it and we believe that it is not handled properly, the mobile money business will fold up and when that happens there is going to be chaos and inconvenience a since everything is directly or indirectly linked to mobile money business," he said.
