Residents of the Bono regional capital, Sunyani have welcomed the installation of security cameras across the major streets in the city.
They are expecting that crime rate in the area will be brought under the barest minimum even though the presence of the CCTV cameras has been long overdue.
Traders, commuters, motorists, shop owners, travellers and commercial drivers at the Central Business District (CBD) of the capital have expressed hope that with the cameras at vantage areas, the police could identify and track those who perpetuate crime within Sunyani,
A pharmacy attendant, John Asomani, noted that the cameras will go a long way to deter miscreants, drug peddlers as well as armed robbers from undertaking their unscrupulous activities particularly at night when everybody has wind down.
“The recent spate of crime in Sunyani is due to the rapid population growth has been a huge challenge to security operatives and city authorities.

I am therefore very optimistic that these security cameras will greatly aid the police in combating crime, so I commend the government and the police service for the initiative,” he explained.
Another trader at the CBD, Rockson Banahene, also commended the government for the cameras and but underscored the need for improved police visibility through intensified night patrols in the various neighborhoods.
Trader at the Nana Bosoma market could not hide their joy about the installing of security cameras in the Bono regional capital, saying “we laud the government and the city authorities since CCTV is a fundamental tool to checking criminal activities”.
A 51-year trader, Afia Kyeremeh, also stated that there are more new settlements to springing up, so installation of the cameras is in the right direction.
She, therefore called on the authorities to ensure that the facilities are properly and frequently maintained in order to guarantee their effectiveness.
