The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has condemned a teacher of the Kulpi Junior High School for allegedly sodomising 19 boys in the Savannah Region.
The Social Studies teacher, Nantomah Musah Otabel, is currently being charged by the police for defiling and engaging in unnatural carnal knowledge with the male students of the school located in the East Gonja Municipality.
The Gender Ministry in a press release dated October 11, 2021, said it has initiated community dialogues aimed at tackling issues of sexual abuse, domestic violence and other issues in the country.
"As a Ministry, we are liaising with the Guidance and Counselling Unit of the Ghana Education Service, the District Social Welfare offices and the Ghana Police Service to provide counselling services to the affected pupils during all the processes.
"Since the Police has taken over the issue, we pray that justice is served to deter others from perpetuating this act in the near future," the statement added.
The suspect, Musah Otabel, was arrested by the police on Monday, September 27 after all the nineteen boys accused him of the crime.
The victims were later issued police medical forms to seek medical examination at the Salaga Government Hospital but their relatives want the police to immediately deal with the matter to ensure that justice is duly served.
The Ministry of Gender is, therefore, entreating citizens to be vigilant while asking them to report cases of abuse and individuals who engage in such "unlawful acts."
The general public can reach the Ministry's Helpline of Hope Call Centre on its toll-free number 0800-800-800 or 0800-900-900 for complaints and enquiries.
Also, issues of sexual and gender-based violence can be reported to the Domestic Violence Call Centre via toll-free number 0800-111-222.
