Chief Executive of Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), Seth Twum-Akwaboah says he expects the 2022 Budget to be presented before Parliament on Wednesday to address support for industries in the country.
Speaking in an interview on Joy Business Edition of PM Express, he explained that industries are the major breakthrough for job creation hence the request for support.
“I believe that industry holds the key to job creation. Government’s number one challenge is creating jobs for the masses and therefore if industry holds the key to that then your budget programme should really support industry,” he told George Wiafe on Thursday.
According to him, when proper linkages are connected between the industry and agriculture, “it will create the jobs that we need.”
He, therefore, stated that the budget should clearly spell out the incentives that are being given to industry.
“We would like to see the reforms in the tax regime that is supportive of industrialisation. I think if we get it right, we would be able to make the impact that we want,” he said.
He added that “if you look at it investor confidence in Ghana is not bad. If you look at the statistics from the GIPC there is more investment coming into Ghana and therefore if we channel it to the right productive areas eventually will create the jobs that we need.”
"But it should be seriously supported by sister regime and the strategy under policies should also be directed towards productive sector."
