The quest for becoming 2021 champions of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) came to an end for Abuakwa State College and Northern School of Business after encountering Bolgatanga SHS on Monday.
Stephen Bugadam and Desmond Abenduah of Bolgatanga SHS catapulted the school to victory by garnering 41 points at the end of the contest.
One of the two one-eighth contests that took place at the Saarah-Mensah auditorium saw Bolgatanga SHS lead all five rounds of the competition, thus securing the win.

In a similar event at the one-eighth stage of the NSMQ 2020 contest, the Northern School of Business with a point margin eliminated Bolgatanga SHS and St John's School, Sekondi, to secure a slot in the quarter-final stage.
However, they have been unfortunate this time round as Bolgatanga SHS has given them a taste of their own medicine.
The power behind Jamaldeen Sulemana that turned the tides last year for Northern School of Business could not save the school from defeat this year.
At the end of Round One, Bolgatanga SHS led the score table with 16 points. Abuakwa State College and Northern School of Business followed with 10 and 7 points respectively.
The speed race in Round Two proved to be a difficult hurdle to cross for Stephen Owusu and Prince Asare of Abuakwa State College; as well as Northern School of Business represented by Charles Enoch Napari and Mohammed Abdul, as both schools managed to secure just 4 points.
Bolgatanga SHS distanced itself from its rivals by scoring 29 points. Although the school managed to lead Round Three, the Problem of the Day worth 10 points proved to be a herculean task for all three schools.

At the end of the contest, Abuakwa State College and Northern School of Business could not gather the needed strength to surmount Bolgatanga SHS from the lead position.
The two schools ended the contest with 29 and 24 points each.
Bolgatanga SHS' victory enables the school to battle with the likes of six-time champions Presec Legon, Sonrise SHS, among others for the bragging rights as 2021 NSMQ winners.
