Wesley Girls’ High School has kicked out St. Francis Xavier Jnr Seminary and Aburi Girls’ SHS from the race to becoming the 2021 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) champions.

The Cape Coast-based school, popularly known as WeyGeyhey came well prepared this year to shine their light for all to see their might.

Right at the beginning of Tuesday’s contest, WeyGeyhey took charge and grabbed whatever points that came their way to lead the pack at the end of Round One.

Alexandra Fosuaa Owusu and Benedicta Baaba Odei secured the school’s lead position from the Speed Race in Round Two, Round Three’s Problem of the day and True or False section in Round Four.

In Round Four, St. Francis Xavier Jnr Seminary upped their game but all efforts employed to overtake Wesley Girls proved futile.

At the end of the day, Wesley Girls’ High School booked a slot at the one-fourth stage of the competition with 39 points.

But the question on the minds of all who support WeyGeyhey is whether they stand a chance to progress to the semi-final stage.

Their concern stems from the school’s unfortunate defeat last year when they came across Opoku Ware SHS at the quarter-final stage.

Opoku Ware SHS with 49 points, eliminated WeyGeyhey and Holy Child SHS to secure a spot in the semi-final stage.

Supporters of the all-girls school are of the belief that should they beef up their efforts, they would progress to the final stage and win the coveted trophy.
