On the second day of the 2022 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ), 32 schools competed in the preliminary stage.
Out of those schools, 12 of them qualified for the one-eighth stage, thereby joining the nine schools from day one.
Winning their respective competitions with 52 points each, Koforidua Sec. Tech and Awudome SHS tied for the highest points of the day.
Koforidua Sec. Tech competed against Saviour SHS and Tema SHS. Saviour SHS finished the competition with 33 points and Tema SHS came last with 27 points.

Awudome SHS, Odorgonno SHS and Akontombra SHS also battled for a spot in the next stage.
Odorgonno SHS and Akontombra SHS lost with 37 and 20 points respectively.

The much-anticipated competition involving Achimota School, Okuapemman School and Navrongo SHS came off with the former taking the lead.
Achimota School secured a spot at the one-eighth stage with 41 points. Their competitors, Okuapemman School and Navrongo SHS lost with 27 and 22 points respectively.

Also winning their competition with 41 points is Nandom SHS. They were the only school to win the Goil Riddle Bonanza worth GHS800 after answering three out of four riddles correctly.

They competed against St Pauls SHS, Denu and Afia Kobi Ampem Girls' SHS. The two losing schools finished the competition with 25 and 10 points respectively.

The reigning Volta-Oti Science and Maths Quiz champions, Bishop Herman College (BIHECO) turned an imminent defeat into victory after they got a narrow win to qualify for the one-eighth stage.
BIHECO won with 52 points. Their competitors SDA SHS, Bekwai lost with 24 points and Salaga SHS with 20 points.

Students of Anlo SHS won a slot at the one-eighth stage after an impressive performance.
With 46 points, Anlo SHS proceeded to the next stage while St Mary's SHS lost with 42 points and Akwamuman SHS trailed behind with 31 points.

Adu Gyamfi SHS pulled a surprise by beating Aburi Girls SHS at the preliminary stage.
At the end of the contest which took place in the Kumapley Auditorium at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Adu Gyamfi SHS – which was regarded as the underdog – won comfortably with a total of 41 points.
Aburi Girls’ and Sefwi Wiawso SHSs trailed with 24 points and 10 points, respectively.

Yaa Asantewaa Girls' SHS also won their competition. They beat Nkwatia Presby SHS and Kintampo SHS with 38 points.
The other schools lost with 35 and 8 points respectively.

Students of Mpreaso SHS made their school proud by winning their contest with 46 points.
They beat St John's School, Sekondi, which finished the competition with 32 points. Kumbungu SHS although in the race, did not amass any point.

Progressing to the next stage of the competition is St Huberts Sem. SHS. They won their contest with 46 points.
Winneba SHS and St Joseph SHS lost with 29 and 12 points respectively.

Simms SHS won themselves a ticket to the one-eighth stage with 31 points.
Akatsi SHTS and Kadjebi-Asato SHS lost with 10 and 17 points respectively.

Finally, the competition among St Francis Xavier SHS, Wesley High School, Bekwai and Tweneboa Kodua SHS ended in a tie.
St Francis Xavier SHS and Wesley High School, Bekwai both finished the fifth round with 40 points. However, after successfully answering the tie breaker question, St Francis Xavier SHS won the contest.
Tweneboa Kodua SHS lost wth 27 points.

Meanwhile, some of these schools may have lost today’s contest but the prelims may not be the last NSMQ competition for them this year.
About 18 schools who had high marks but did not win, after a tally, will gain a chance to compete in the one-eighth stage.
