Talks between the Majority and Minority in Parliament over the rejected 2022 Budget statement and economic policy have broken down; sources tell JoyNews.
The talks have been ongoing in Parliament for several hours in a desperate attempt to build consensus over the rejected budget.
JoyNews understands entrenched positions around the controversial e-levy has been the major dividing issue.
The Minority Caucus has been demanding a withdrawal of the proposed levy.
JoyNews sources say the Majority side, backed by the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, who walked into the meeting around midday, agreed to reduce the proposed levy from 1.75% to 1.5%.
But the NDC side has rejected it.
Another source of disagreement is the procedure to re-introduce the budget on the floor.
The Majority side had hinted their preference for a vote of rescission, first to rescind the decision last Friday that rejected the budget before moving a fresh motion to consider the 2022 budget.
It appears the Majority Caucus disagrees. Unfortunately, this has led to a breakdown in talks.
The House is now scheduled to begin sitting in the plenary within the hour.
JoyNews understands the Minority side is now considering their option when the matter comes up on the floor. They have decided to boycott the proceedings.
