The Ghana Grid Company Limited and the Electricity Company of Ghana say it will be difficult to issue a load-shedding timetable in the wake of recent unstable power in Kumasi.
This comes after consumers demanded a timetable to help plan and avert losses in their businesses.
Power consumers in Greater Kumasi therefore will have to endure what has become known as ‘dumsor’ every evening until December 20.
This was revealed at a joint press conference by the Energy Ministry, power producers and distributing agencies in Kumasi.
“...until evening and looking at the voltage, GRIDCO system control doesn’t know how much load relief we need in Kumasi. And It is when they tell ECG that ECG will be able to know that may be there will be no load relief or there will be 10Mw or 20Mw.
"So ECG I don’t think can give a timetable. If they even give a timetable then you or a factory can't even plan with it because it is either the lights will come or not", GRIDCO Director for Northern Network Services, Vincent Boakye, told the media.
Mr Boakye continued that, "...let's say that at the peak load there is a possibility that the lights will go off so when you are planning plan with that but whether you or your house in particular will go off or not GRIDCO doesn’t know, ECG doesn’t know, it depends on the state of the system and the voltage at the time".
