The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has commissioned a team to undertake a metre reading exercise in the Krobo district of the Tema region.
Following the restoration of power in the area on Monday, the exercise which began on Tuesday "is an important exercise to assist in generating their monthly bills," the power distribution company said.
In a public announcement dated December 13, ECG added that "members of the team [who will be visiting their premises to read the consumption on their metres] will be identified by their identity cards and ECG vests."
"We wish to urge all customers to cooperate with us to make the exercise a success," it added.
On Tuesday, a team of ECG officials from both the Tema Regional Office and the Krobo District began the exercise under police protection.

The ECG restored power to the Yilo Krobo and the Lower Manya Krobo municipalities in the Eastern region yesterday after the Inspector General of Police (IGP), George Akuffo Dampare, visited the communities to engage relevant stakeholders a possible disturbance by the youth.
Some district residents had protested the ECG's move to introduce prepaid metres in their households. In addition, there were other illegal interferences with the company's network.
In a press release, ECG said it “restored supply to customers in the Krobo enclave, after security agencies assisted ECG engineers to check the integrity of the distribution network to ensure safe and quality power supply.”
Notwithstanding the current progress, some three distribution transformers are without power supply.

Meanwhile, customers in the affected localities have been assured that engineers are working around the clock to resolve the challenges.
“Affected customers should please note that ECG engineers are working assiduously to rectify the faults and restore supply as soon as practicable,” the release concluded.
