A teacher union known as All Teachers Alliance Ghana (ATAG) has taken to some principal streets in Accra to protest the ‘one teacher- one laptop initiative by the Ghana Education Service (GES).
The group said it is displeased with government’s decision to deduct an amount of GH¢509 from the teachers’ professional development allowance to fund the 'one-teacher, one laptop' policy.
According to the Union, the deduction is being done at a time when a legal battle, that seeks to terminate the implementation of the initiative, is ongoing.
On the other hand, the Ghana Education Service (GES) says it has distributed about 80% of the 62,000 laptops to teachers in Senior High Schools under the project.
Joy News’ Evans Mensah tonight delved into the 1 teacher, 1 Laptop deal again to know ‘what the documents tell us.’
Guests for the programme are; President of All Teachers Alliance Ghana (ATAG), Isaac Ofori, Public Relations Officer of Ministry of Education, Kwesi Kwarteng, President of Innovative Teachers Association, Stephen Desu, and Deputy Ranking Member of Parliament’s Education Committee, Clement Apaak.
