Members of the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) will today lay down their working tools indefinitely.

This initiative, taken was after an emergency national council meeting on January 4, to protest the unfavourable working conditions faced by CETAG.

Academic activities on 46 campuses of the Colleges of Education are expected to come to a complete halt due to this decision.

According to the Association in a press release dated January 5, "CETAG and Government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on September 24, 2021, after reaching agreements on 2017-2020 Conditions of Service (CoS) for members of the Association.”

The statement added that "the effective date of implementation as of January 1, 2021, while payment of associated arrears of nine months was to be paid in October, November, and December 2021," but due to government's inability to fulfil its part, the decision to embark on strike.

Before the Thursday strike action, the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana threatened to withdraw their services in December last year due to the aforementioned challenges.
