The Criminal High Court in Accra has adjourned the trial involving former Ghana Cocoa Board (Cocobod) CEO, Dr Stephen Opuni and two others, after the computer system in the court broke down.
The Court was scheduled to continue the hearing of Dr Opuni’s witness on Monday, however, this did not happen.
The hard disk in the system unit of the computer installed in the court reportedly crashed, forcing proceedings into adjournment.
The presiding judge, Justice Clemence Honyenuga told the parties to return on Monday, January 17 for the case to be continued as it was practically impossible to continue with the proceedings.
The Supreme Court judge was hopeful that the technical team of the Judicial Service would be able to resolve the challenge within the week.
Meanwhile, counsel for Dr. Stephen Opuni, Samuel Cudjoe told the court that they have a motion to invoke the supervisory jurisdiction of the Supreme Court for certiorari. That application has been set for February 8, 2022.
Lawyers of the accused persons have also filed respective motions for consideration.
Dr. Opuni and two others, including Managing Director of Agricult Ghana Limited, Seidu Agongo have pleaded not guilty to charges, including causing financial loss to the State in the controversial Lithovit fertiliser issues.
Dr. Opuni and Mr Agongo are facing 27 charges, including defrauding by false pretences, willfully causing financial loss to the state, money laundering, corruption by public officers and contravention of the Public Procurement Act.
They have both pleaded not guilty to the charges and were granted a GH¢300,000 self-recognisance bail each.
