Black Stars midfielder Sulley Muntari, has revealed that his move to Hearts of Oak was one inspired by his six-year old son, Jamal Kruise Muntari.

Premier League defending champions Hearts of Oak, confirmed their capture of the 38-year-old midfielder on a one-year deal. Before the deal, Muntari was without a club after leaving Albacete Balompie in 2019.

Speaking for the first time following his signing, Muntari revealed that despite a long-time relationship with the Phobians the thought of signing for them was engineered by Jamal.

"Decision to play now is my son but decision to play for Hearts of Oak was easy. I live here in Accra and before I came down for holidays, I train with Hearts of Oak. I met Dr. Tamakloe, the President himself, Afede and a few of his friends. Some of the players too, I've met them. It wasn't a hard decision to make but the push was my son who asked me to start playing because he wants to come to the stadium and watch me play and I said 'okay'. Since the friendship with Hearts was there long before, it was easy, very easy for me to choose," Muntari said in an interview with Hearts' media.

The midfielder, who could make his debut for the club in the GaMashie derby versus Hearts' city rivals Great Olympics, says he is happy to be joining 'one of the biggest' teams in Africa and is a big admirer of the club and their football.

"Hearts of Oak play good football, it's a top team one of the biggest in Africa so I'm happy to be part of it. I've been watching Hearts for a long time and I know a little bit about the team."

Muntari last featured in the Ghana Premier League for Liberty Professionals in 2001, and is making his return after 21 years.
