The Education Minister, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, has cautioned Governing Board members of institutions to desist from leaking out information on issues discussed or decisions taken at council meetings since it was not only wrong but criminal as well.

He explained that, as members of the council, there was the need for them to keep discussions at meetings confidential and rather let their focus be the interest of the university as a whole.

Dr Adutwum gave the caution on Tuesday during the inauguration of the Governing Board of the Cape Coast Technical University in Accra.

The Education Minister administered the oath of secrecy and oath of office to the fifteen-member board headed by Prof. Harold S. Amonoo-Kuofi.

He tasked the members of the board to bring their various expertise and experiences to bear to turn the Cape Coast Technical University around to help change the story about the university.

"We need to hear about Cape Coast Technical University based on your accomplishment, look for opportunities for transformation and support the Vice-Chancellor to succeed," Dr Adutwum said.

Again he said "Let's focus on what is critical according to the strategic plan of the university and move things forward on behalf of the university. You must operate within your mandate and the statute which established you as a university."

Dr Adutwum urged Technical Universities to position themselves to match up with the government's industrialisation agenda by training students who can support the development of industry in diverse ways.

The Board Chairman of the Cape Coast Technical University, Prof. Harold S. Amonoo-Kuofi on behalf of the members lauded the government for the trust reposed in them and pledged to work very hard to turn the fortunes of the University around.

He assured the government of their commitment to work as a team and put their ideas together towards getting the best ideas which were critical towards the transformation of the university and the nation as a whole.

The Board Chair pledged to work very hard to increase enrolment of the university and also make it very competitive globally by adopting critical strategies that would make it the first port of call by all students.
