Musician and entrepreneur, Coded, is questioning the 'Something Wicked Awards' on the whereabouts of his ‘Yomo Artiste of the Year’ plaque.
Real name Russell Edem Avornyo, says he deserves to be given a trophy, as it is done in every award scheme that has winners.
The “Dada Da Moase” hit-maker voiced out his resentment to the organizers for their failure to deliver his plaque, because, he wants something to show for the hard work.
Speaking on Daybreak Hitz via Hitz 103.9 FM, he said: “I am pissed off that I have not been given my ‘Yomo Artiste of the Year’ plaque. Where is it?” he quizzed Andy Dosty.
To add insult to injury, he subtly took a swipe at the former “reigning champion”, Okyeame Kwame, who won the prestigious category in 2020:
“It is not easy to take it from Okyeame Kwame, a living legend,” Coded added.
That jab, although was said passively, did not escape the sight of the “Rap Doctor” after Hitz 103.9 FM posted Coded’s quote onto their Twitter page.
The “Made in Ghana” rapper, in a response to Coded’s statement, expressed his disappointment in the Board’s refusal to award him what he deserved, the ‘Yomo Artiste of the Year’.
Okyeame Kwame tweeted: “I’m also pissed off because they robbed me. This industry and mafialism.”
Yomo, normally called “Adarmah” by the Ga-Adangbe tribe, is a type of dye applied onto the hair by older Ga women in order to achieve a young-looking appearance.
However, the use of hair-dye is not limited to the older generation. Some young people, including musicians, apply the solution for various reasons.
This has caught the attention of the organizers of ‘Something Wicked Awards’ to enlist the practice as a category [Yomo Artiste of the Year], in the award scheme.
Whenever nominees announced, the award show brings social media to a standstill due to its provocative categories and controversial nominations.
As the name implies, ‘Something Wicked Awards’ is a satirical award show created to celebrate and highlight topical events in the Ghanaian music/movie industry.
The show also rewards social media influencers for their public commentating campaigns.
The annual event is held on Hitz 103.9 FM on Hitz Gallery with Dr Pounds and, streamed on the radio station’s social media pages.
Nominees announcement and launch is scheduled to take place in December.
