The Central Regional Qualifiers of the 2022 National Science and Maths Quiz was brought to a successful end on Thursday, May 5.
Four formidable schools contested - Adisadel College, St Augustine's College, Ghana National College and University Practice SHS. They gave a wonderful performance.
At the end of the first round, both Adisadel College and St Augustine's College led the race with 22 points each, while Ghana National College and University Practice SHS followed with 21 points each.
Round 2, which is the speed race set the men apart from the boys. Interestingly, Adisadel College (ADISCO) and St Augustine's College (AUGUSCO) ended the round in a tie.
Not ready to give up the lead position, both schools secured 31 points each. It was a different story for University Practice SHS and Ghana National College.
University Practice SHS added three points to its previous score but Ghana National College met some deductions in the round, thereby ending up with 19 points.
Those who had hoped for another tie in the third round were disappointed because ADISCO took charge this time round.
With 44 points, Adisadel College got a comfortable lead position. Not far though was AUGUSCO, not crossing the 40-point threshold but quite close to give ADISCO some troubles.
In Round 3, University Practice SHS gave a spectacular show and was four points away from beating AUGUSCO to take the second position. Ghana National College was in a difficult position.
The final round to change one's fortune was finally here. The riddles were posed and each time, Adisadel College was there to do justice. St Augustine's College struggled to keep up but managed to secure a riddle for itself.
ADISCO must be hailed as suggested in the school's anthem because at the end of it all, Adisadel College proved to be the better school - winning the Central Regional Qualifiers finale with 52 points.
In 2021, ADISCO was deprived of this sweet victory. Mfantsipim School made sure of that when it beat the one-time champion, University Practice SHS and Assin State College, to be crowned Central Region Champions.
This year, Mfantsipim (Botwe) failed to defend its title. Ghana National College denied the school of this chance.
Botwe's defeat was agonizing because just a point prevented the school from qualifying to the regional finals.
Before the finals
Adisadel College beat Swedru SHS, Apam SHS and Eguafo Abrem SHS in order to secure a slot at the finals.
T.I. AMASS, Potin, Boa Amponsem SHS and Aggrey Memorial SHS were kicked out by St Augustine's College.
In order for University Practice SHS to qualify to the finals, Assin State College, Holy Child School and Wesley Girls’ High School had to be eliminated.
