Lecturer at the University of Ghana Law School, Clara Beeri Kasser-Tee, has also added her voice to calls for the 1992 Constitution to be reviewed.

According to her, successive governments have failed to ensure that the economic rights of the citizenry as enshrined in the 1992 Constitution are achieved.

She insisted that, although political inclusion in the constitution has been achieved, more needs to be done to attain inclusion economically.

Mrs Kasser-Tee made the remark when she contributed to discussions during the 2022 Annual Constitution Week lecture and panel discussions organized by the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) on Tuesday, May 10.

The lawyer lecturer also speaking at the said event said, “What we haven’t achieved is economic inclusion. We have not been able to secure for ourselves the economic prosperity we hoped that the country and constitution will guarantee for us.”

The situation, she maintained, needs serious tackling to cushion Ghanaians. She thus charged the two leading political parties to do more in that regard.

“This constitution hasn’t fared too badly. There are a lot of improvements that have to be made.  It is the first constitution that we have, and it has served us for 30 years."

"That in itself is something. It’s guaranteed our democracy. We have attained political inclusion under the constitution, which is key for democracy, and the two major political parties deserve some credit.”

“But we have a lot to do when it comes to economic inclusion. So we haven’t fared well. We must be bold and humble to admit that we have not attained economic inclusion”, she added.
