The race to the Ashanti Regional chairmanship position of the New Patriotic Party is heating up as aspirants access nomination forms to contest.
The first to file nomination is Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, who says he has the antidote to cracks in the regional party structure.
He says his connection with the grassroots for more than twenty years puts him in the best position to help the party to break the eight.
The chairmanship race of the NPP in the Ashanti Region could be the fiercest, perhaps next to the party’s national election campaign.
Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known popularly as Chairman Wuntumi, has been regional chairman for two terms and is looking to go for a third term.
But the message of Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, popularly known as COKA, seems to be catching on with the party faithful in the region.
He is the first to file his nomination for the chairmanship position.
COKA believes he is in a strategic position to unseat the incumbent. Keskine Owusu Poku filed the forms on behalf of COKA.
The recent disturbances that erupted in both polling station and constituency elections fingered the regional party chairman of losing grip of the party.
Mr Odeneho Appiah who has been the chairman in the Afigya Kwabre South Constituency for close to twenty years says he holds the magic to unite the party with his vision.
The annual regional delegates’ conference is slated for later this month.
Secretary to the Ashanti Regional Election Committee, Henry Kwabena Kokofu, says the committee will be fair and firm in discharging its duties.
He however appealed to prospective aspirants to refrain from politics of insults to safeguard the unity of the party.
