The Energy Minister, Mathew Opoku Prempeh has commended Ghana Gas Company for raising the bar with its New Health and Safety Accreditation.
The Ghana National Gas Company, earlier this year, was awarded the ISO 45001:2018 Certification - the highest International accreditation for occupational health and safety management systems.
Speaking on behalf of the Energy Minister at the certificate unveiling in Accra, the Deputy Minister of Energy William Owuraku Aidoo said Ghana Gas continues to prospect and produce lean gas, condensate, LPG and isopentane, thus, playing a key role in accelerating the Nation’s industrial sector.
He noted that by this health and safety management system certification, Ghana Gas has distinguished itself as the first wholly state-owned enterprise in the energy sector in Ghana to have attained this prestigious accreditation.
Speaking at the Certificate Unveiling, the Chief Executive of Ghana Gas, Dr Ben Asante said the independent certification audits were carried out by Det Norske Veritas (DNV), a globally acclaimed expert in Assurance and Risk management, with its headquarters in Norway.
He said the ISO 45001 Certification project is in demonstration of the strong leadership and commitment of the Board and Management with respect to the health and safety of employees and all stakeholders.
Dr Ben added that the main aim of the ISO 45001 certification is to enable management to implement and maintain an up-to-date comprehensive health and safety system.
This will provide a framework for the prevention of work-related injury and ill health to workers and to provide a safe and healthy workplace, he said.
Dr Ben added that the move is also intended to enhance continual improvement in the Ghana Gas business operations and processes.
