Member of Parliament for Sagnarigu, Atta Issah, has expressed support for calls for the energy minister to appear before Parliament, saying lawmakers have a responsibility to seek answers and make suggestions on behalf of the people.

Speaking on Newsfile on JoyNews, he said the Minister’s appearance before Parliament would provide an opportunity for MPs to raise questions and seek clarity on concerns surrounding the energy sector.

“I support the cause that he should come to Parliament because we are the people's representatives. Maybe there are some questions that people have to ask or suggestions that people have to make,” Issah said on Saturday, August 22.

His comments come amid calls by the Deputy Ranking Member of Parliament’s Energy Committee, Collins Adomako-Mensah, for the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) and the energy minister to appear before Parliament to explain the recurring nationwide power outages.

He added that Parliament’s consideration of the 2027 Budget in November could provide an opportunity for lawmakers to push for additional resources for the Energy Ministry, provided the Minister gives satisfactory answers to the questions raised.

Atta Issah also commended the Energy Minister for his increased engagement with the media and stakeholders, but stressed that such explanations must ultimately translate into meaningful action.
