Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has announced that President Akufo-Addo will soon address the nation on the current economic situation.
Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM's Ekosiisen on Monday, Mr. Oppong Nkrumah said the national address may take place after a cabinet retreat this weekend.
According to him, the President will also announce measures taken by the government to turn the situation around.
"This morning during the press conference, I informed them that the Bank of Ghana will be meeting the Managing Directors of some of the banks and the heads of the Forex Bureau Associations for a series of discussions aimed at ensuring that the supply of forex onto the forex markets is stabilised and the overpricing is also halted and that people will need access to Forex for legitimate transactions can get same without hindrance," he said.
He added that on the same day, the Finance Minister will also meet with the leaders of the Economic Management Team (EMT) to discuss recommendations from IMF with the Economists.
According to him, on Tuesday and Wednesday, Ghana Union of Trade Association (GUTA) challenges as well as Ghana Private Roads and Transport Unions (GPRTU) fare issues will be addressed.
"Afterward, from Thursday to Saturday, we will compile everything together and lay it before President at Cabinet to help to take the next decision," he added.
According to him, after all meetings have been held, President Akufo-Addo will then address the nation on measures taken to revive the ailing economy. He however failed to provide the specific day on which the address will be delivered.
"I cannot put the date out in the public ... He could probably address the nation before the end of the IMF discussions but it would be in consonance with what we started in April," he stated.
