Renowned economist, Kwame Pianim, has joined calls for Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, to leave office.
According to him, there is no reason for him to stay at post considering the economic turmoil being witnessed under his supervision.
He believes there are better-qualified individuals who can manage the public purse and take it out of the current crunch.
Ghana is currently at the doors of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a bailout amid intensifying hardship, a rising cost of living and a depreciating cedi.
In this light, Mr Pianim insists that "I can go onto the street, close my eyes and pick ten people who will do the job better than Ken Ofori-Atta is doing."
Some 80 New Patriotic Party (NPP) MPs on Monday called for the immediate dismissal of Mr Ofori-Atta and the Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, Charles Adu-Boahen for their non-performance which has resulted in the poor state of the economy.
According to them, the continuous stay of Ken Ofori-Atta in office is delaying the IMF bailout the country is seeking due to the fact that the Minister has lost all credibility.
But after a meeting with the President, the NPP MPs reached a compromise to allow the embattled ministers to stay in office till after the IMF negotiation is done.
Speaking on JoyNews' Upfront on Thursday, Kwame Pianim explained that the woes suffered by the country are untenable and must lead the Minister to resign.
"He has done enough. And I am appealing to him in the same of the good Lord he professes to believe in and to worship. Please go before you destroy this country," he added.
